Character I, 2022
glass, 15″ 15″ 3″
I created the piece "Character" during my residency at Penland School of Craft in 2022. The artwork consists of nine glass components, each resembling the letter "H" in size and shape. In the middle of each piece, there are white lines that resemble a flow of silk merging toward each other. I assembled the nine components following the principle of the geometric grid system in Chinese typography, creating an imaginary word of "queerness" for which our ancient language has no words.
